About The Drums

Vado’s djembe shells come from all over Africa, and have distinct shapes and types of wood. Vado receives drum shells from many sources, transforming each into a one-of-a-kind, singing instrument that responds to the drummer instantly. Drummers bond with a Vado drum in a passionate and possessive way, basking in the pleasure of a unique relationship of sound and touch.

Types Of Djembe’s

The dundun is the tall bass drum with a large sound. In Ivory Coast it is played standing up.

The kinkine works as a metronome in African percussion makes its sound comparable to rhythmic elements in Western music that provide a consistent beat or pulse, such as a strong hi-hat, rimshot, woodblock, or cowbell. It is generally a higher sound of the three sounds in the dundun set.

The songba is a bass drum with a sound in between the bigger dundun bass drum and the higher kinkine sound. It can be tall or short.
